BVR Athlete of the Week: Corinne Downey

Corinne Downey has been playing on the Girls Hockey team since her freshman year. Each year Corinne has impacted the team with her winning mindset and her skill. The team has begun a three-game winning streak thanks to Corinne’s domination on the scoreboard with three consecutive hat tricks. Beaver is very excited to see how the season unfolds.

What does it mean to be a leader on your team?

I think making sure I am responsible to make sure everyone is having fun and putting their best effort out there. As well as making sure I perform my best and have a positive attitude so that people around me feel that they have someone that they can look up to.

What is your fondest memory of playing Ice hockey?

I remember the first day that I came Winter term, first hockey practice in ninth grade. I had to wake up at 4:45 in the morning not knowing anyone on the team, not knowing what the team was like or anything, but I walk into the locker room and everyone has a huge smile on their face. They are blasting music, dancing around while they are getting dressed. It just made me feel so welcome as a freshman coming onto a team.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?6

My favorite athlete is Serena Williams. This is because she is one of the greatest athletes of all time. She is making huge strides for women in sports. Traditionally, when one talks of sporting achievement at this level, no female athlete receives a mention, that is until Serena Williams, of course. She dominates her game while maintaining an amazing amount of sportsmanship. She is currently leading a pathway for upcoming female athletes and is such a big role model, that is why she is my favorite.
